Avengers: Endgame was a good movie but over time it has become more and more disappointing. Like I said before, the movie was good but it wasn’t great, like Avengers: Infinity War. The darker themes that I liked in Infinity War were near-eradicated in Endgame as the writers chose for a lighter tone to conclude the Infinity Saga. But overall, I have been somewhat satisfied with the ways things played out…that is until I watched a thrilling new deleted scene released for Endgame via Disney Plus. A deleted scene that blew my mind in ways that I wasn’t expecting and rekindled my dissatisfaction. Here it is.
I couldn’t find a better video but here’s the one I liked the most. This alternate version of the Vormir scene in Endgame is EXTRAORDINARY. I’m talking about an emotionally impactful, satisfying, thrilling, riveting deleted scene that featured Black Widow and Hawkeye taking on a small army of Chitauri soldiers while still trying to receive the Soul Stone.
Black Widow’s sacrifice is all the more heartfelt as she, half-dead from being shot three times, saves Hawkeye’s life when he finds himself at the mercy of a Chitauri warrior. At that moment she repays her debt to him, the love they have for one another is on full display in a tear-jerking way, and her sacrifice feels like a powerful, resounding conclusion to her story, just like Iron Man and Captain America’s conclusions leave one feeling satisfied.
A lot of people, like myself, were bummed with the way that Black Widow’s death came about, but if this had been in the actual movie, I have feeling it may have been some fans’ favorite sacrifice in the film. In short, it was amazing!
What this deleted scene tells me, however, is that there was a darker version of Avengers: Endgame that the executives of Marvel Studios (and probably Disney) debunked, considering the tragic events of Infinity War. I just wish we could’ve seen this grimmer take on the Avengers finale.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
