Rocksteady Studios is set to return to the Batman universe with a new single-player title, following the disappointing launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. According to a recent Bloomberg report, journalist Jason Schreier reveals that the studio is “looking to return to Batman for a single-player game.”
While it’s unclear whether this project will be a continuation of the Batman: Arkham series or an entirely new story. Sources claim the game is still years away from release.
A Shift Back to Single-Player After Suicide Squad’s Failure
Following the success of Batman: Arkham Knight and its DLC expansions, Rocksteady ventured into the online multiplayer space. However, the game was a critical and commercial failure, with reports estimating a $200 million loss. Post-launch support also fell short, culminating in an in-game comic book that undid major narrative twists—revealing that the Justice League members were merely clones rather than their real counterparts.
Fans Eager for Rocksteady’s Batman Return
For fans of the Arkham series, this news is a promising development. Rocksteady’s previous Batman games are widely regarded. Some of the best superhero titles ever made, setting a high bar for narrative-driven action games. However, some of the studio’s developers are currently assisting Avalanche Software in expanding Hogwarts Legacy, suggesting that not all hands are on deck for the new Batman project just yet.
