Rocksteady Studios is set to return to the Batman universe with a new single-player title, following the disappointing launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. According to a recent Bloomberg report, journalist Jason Schreier reveals that the studio is “looking to return to Batman for a single-player game.”
While it’s unclear whether this project will be a continuation of the Batman: Arkham series or an entirely new story. Sources claim the game is still years away from release.
Update, October 4, 2026: Rocksteady has still not officially announced its Batman game, though 2026 reports say it is in development and still years away. The Hogwarts Legacy expansion its staff were helping with was cancelled in March 2025.
A Shift Back to Single-Player After Suicide Squad’s Failure
Following the success of Batman: Arkham Knight and its DLC expansions, Rocksteady ventured into the online multiplayer space. However, the game was a critical and commercial failure, with reports estimating a $200 million loss. Post-launch support also fell short, culminating in an in-game comic book that undid major narrative twists - revealing that the Justice League members were merely clones rather than their real counterparts.
Fans Eager for Rocksteady’s Batman Return
For fans of the Arkham series, this news is a promising development. Rocksteady’s previous Batman games are widely regarded. Some of the best superhero titles ever made, setting a high bar for narrative-driven action games. However, some of the studio’s developers were then assisting Avalanche Software in expanding Hogwarts Legacy, suggesting that not all hands are on deck for the new Batman project just yet.
