Solo Leveling is heading to the big screen. At Anime Expo 2026, Crunchyroll announced that Solo Leveling: Beyond the System – a brand-new theatrical anime film continuing Sung Jinwoo’s story – is officially in production. For the millions who turned the Shadow Monarch into a global phenomenon, this is the news of the weekend.
What Is Solo Leveling: Beyond the System?
Revealed during Crunchyroll’s showcase panel at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 3, Beyond the System is a feature-length anime film that picks up directly after the events of Season 2. Crunchyroll and Aniplex confirmed the project is already in active production and unveiled a teaser visual alongside a companion concept video to mark the announcement.
Who Is Making the Film
The good news for fans: the core team is coming back. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind both seasons of the anime, returns to animate the film. Tao Tajima steps in to direct – and is also credited as director of photography, editor, and colorist – while Tomoko Sudo returns as character designer and key animator. The film is co-produced by Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, and Kakao Piccoma.
What Will the Story Be About?
Full plot details are still under wraps, but the title is a giant hint. “Beyond the System” points squarely at the mysterious System – the game-like interface that grants Jinwoo his ever-growing power – and the film is widely expected to dig into its origins and secrets as the story pushes past where Season 2 left off. Given where the source manhwa goes, there is a lot of untapped material for a theatrical event.
Watch the First Concept Video
Crunchyroll released an English-subtitled companion concept video to accompany the reveal. Take a look below:
When Can We Watch It?
There is no release date yet. Crunchyroll confirmed only that Beyond the System is in production, so an official window – and hopefully a full trailer – should follow at a later showcase. We will update this post as more details drop.
The Verdict
A theatrical Solo Leveling movie with the original studio and a story that finally cracks open the System? That is close to a best-case scenario for one of anime’s biggest new franchises. If A-1 Pictures brings the same jaw-dropping animation it gave Jinwoo’s fights in the series, Beyond the System could be a genuine event. 🔥
