Spider-Man Brand New Day has been in cinemas since July 31, 2026, and it has become one of the biggest films ever made: about $2.5 billion worldwide and the highest North American total on record. On October 6 it arrives on digital, so a lot of people are about to watch it for the first time. Here is everything to know before you do, with no spoilers: what it is about, who is in it, the records it broke, where to watch it and what comes next.

What is Spider-Man Brand New Day about?
Four years after Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of Peter Parker, Peter is still Spider-Man. He protects New York on his own, and nobody knows who he is, including the friends he used to have.
Then a mysterious telepath starts attacking government facilities, searching for someone who has gone missing. Peter has to face a threat he does not understand, while the cost of his lonely life finally catches up with him.

Do you need to watch No Way Home first?
It helps a lot. Brand New Day picks up from the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Strange’s spell wiped Peter from everyone’s memory, and the whole film is built on that loss. Homecoming and Far From Home add context for Peter, MJ and Ned, but No Way Home is the one to watch if you only have time for one.

The Brand New Day box office records
The film opened to $360 million in North America, the biggest opening weekend ever, and $927 million worldwide. In mid-September it passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest grossing film ever in North America.
At about $2.498 billion worldwide, it now sits third on the all-time chart, behind only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame, and it is the biggest film of 2026. It also became the highest grossing Hollywood release ever in India. Our Brand New Day box office breakdown has every record it broke.
Reviews
Critics liked it. The film sits at about 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for Holland’s performance, the action and a more mature, character-driven story.
Audiences liked it even more. Its 98% Popcornmeter score is the highest of any solo Spider-Man film.
Where to watch Spider-Man Brand New Day
- Cinemas: Sony extended the cinema run to November 16.
- Digital: from October 6, 2026, to buy or rent on Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango at Home and other stores. Pre-orders to own were about $29.99.
- 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD: December 15, three days before Avengers: Doomsday opens.
- Streaming: in the US, Netflix gets the film first and Disney+ comes later. Neither date has been announced.
What comes next for Spider-Man
No fifth Tom Holland film has been officially announced. Producer Amy Pascal has called a new trilogy her dream, but she has also said the team takes it one movie at a time, and Cretton told audiences to watch Brand New Day as if it were the last Spider-Man film.
Spider-Man is also not among the 31 actors Marvel has billed for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18, 2026. The threads this film sets up run elsewhere for now: Jean Grey leads the X-Men reboot on May 5, 2028, and Yelena heads into Doomsday as the new Black Widow.
