GTA 6 Editions: Standard vs Ultimate, and What You Actually Get

The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition costs twenty dollars more than the standard game, and Rockstar has been unusually quiet about what that twenty dollars buys. There is no collector’s edition of the game itself either, which is a genuine break from how GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 were sold. What Rockstar announced instead, on September 24, is a $399.99 Collector’s Box of merchandise that does not include the game. Here is exactly what each edition contains, and who should buy which.

The two GTA 6 editions

• Standard Edition, $79.99. The complete base game. Nothing withheld from the story, the map or the ending.
• GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, $99.99. The same game plus a package of vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, five extra shops and two extra activities, woven into the campaign rather than dumped in a menu.

There is no collector’s edition of the game. No statue, no steelbook, no map cloth bundled with a copy. For a series that shipped a GTA 5 collector’s edition with a branded duffel bag, that is a deliberate decision, and it means the $99.99 Ultimate Edition is the most you can pay for the game itself.

The $399.99 Collector’s Box does not include the game

Update, September 26, 2026: on September 24 Rockstar opened preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State, Vice City Collection, a $399.99 Collector’s Box sold through the Rockstar Store while supplies last. It ships on November 19, launch day, and it does not include the game, not even as a download code.

It holds 11 items: a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a New Era 9FORTY snapback, a Macca the Gator magnetic mirror, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, a Vice City swizzle spoon, a Vice City razor blade keychain, a Leonida Keys enamel pin set, a sticker pack and a double-sided poster with a map of Leonida.

So the real ceiling for a fan who wants everything is $499.98: the box plus the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition. If you only care about what happens on screen, the box adds nothing to the game at all.

Everything in the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition

Vehicles. The ’95 Grotti Cheetah, the ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, a Vapid Ganado pickup, a Dinka Enduro motorcycle, a Crest kayak and the Shitzu Squalo boat. The Cheetah in particular gets a retro-futuristic livery you cannot get otherwise.

Weapons. The Hawk and Little Morgan revolvers, a his-and-hers pair described as coming from the Vercetti Estate, plus a personalised pistol for each lead. If you played Vice City in 2002, that name is doing a lot of work.

Five exclusive shops. This is the largest and least discussed part of the package:

• Rideout Customs, a Vice City vehicle mod shop with interior work, custom rims and donk builds
• One-Eyed Willie’s in Lake Leonida, specialising in off-road modifications and hand-painted work
• Sara’s Unisex Salon, hairstyles for Jason, facial hair, and makeup and nails for Lucia
• Stock 305, streetwear with looks specific to each protagonist
• Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, over 50 exclusive designs created by the real-world art collective FAILE

Two extra activities. The PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store, a compound in Southside Vice City you can raid for contraband, and the Classic Car Collection, a commission that has you hunting down abandoned project cars and restoring them. There is also an extra property, the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, with a weapon locker.

Cosmetics. Vice City Style outfits and tattoos for both leads, plus Goodtime Gear, a capsule collection built around Macca the Gator, a character from an in-universe television show.

The detail most people miss

Ultimate Edition content unlocks chapter by chapter as you play the story. It is not all available at the start.

That single design choice changes what you are buying. This is not a day-one power spike that trivialises the early game, and it is not a menu of cheats. It is extra content threaded through a campaign Rockstar has said runs around 80 hours. If you were worried that paying more would unbalance your first playthrough, it will not. If you were hoping to start in a fast car, it will not do that either.

The pre-order bonus applies to both

Everyone who buys before November 20, 2026, on either edition, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of throwback items. That is a purchase-window bonus rather than a pre-order-only one, so there is no penalty for waiting until launch day, and no advantage to locking in months early beyond the obvious.

Which GTA 6 edition should you buy?

Buy Standard if you mainly want the story, you will play through once, and cosmetic depth is not why you are here. You lose no narrative content whatsoever. Twenty dollars is a real amount of money for shops and paint.

Buy the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition if you are the kind of player who spends an hour in a mod shop before a mission. Rockstar’s customisation systems are the reason people put hundreds of hours into these games, and four of the five exclusive shops are customisation. On an 80-hour campaign the per-hour maths is not really the argument, the playstyle is.

Do not buy either yet if you are a PC player. There is no PC version dated, and buying a console copy to hold your place is not a thing.
