Avengers: Doomsday World Series Preview: Every Moment, Explained

The Doomsday World Series preview is here, and it is not the third trailer some fans hoped for. Marvel and MLB made a short special look together, and it aired during Game 1 of the World Series on FOX on Friday, October 23 (early Saturday morning in India). It mixes brand new footage from Avengers: Doomsday with five of baseball’s biggest names, and it ends with Doctor Doom looming over a ballpark.

Here is every moment, what it confirms about the film, and the one line that stole the show.

The Avengers: Doomsday World Series preview, from MLB’s official YouTube channel.

What the Doomsday World Series preview shows

1. Reed Richards throws the first pitch at Ebbets Field

The spot opens on the Fantastic Four’s retro Earth from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, at Ebbets Field, the old home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) takes the mound in a Brooklyn cap for the ceremonial first pitch, and Ben Grimm wears a Brooklyn cap too. Deadline reports that Reed throws the pitch to Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn).

2. Five MLB stars watch from the dugout

Real players are cut into the scene, watching from the dugout in their own uniforms:

  • Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies
  • Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Jacob Misiorowski, Milwaukee Brewers
  • Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Randy Arozarena, Seattle Mariners

Misiorowski gets the first laugh: “These ceremonial first pitches are getting bigger and bigger.”

3. Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson and Ant-Man

Then the new film footage kicks in. Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is back, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is carrying the shield, and Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang is not sure which of them he should be calling “Cap”. Thor appears as well, in what looks like Avengers Tower.

4. Doom over the field

The spot ends with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom appearing over the ballpark, and Harper gets the last word: “We gotta go. Like, now.”

Ant-Man’s Captain America mix-up

The best moment in the Doomsday World Series preview is also the smallest. Scott Lang standing between two Captain Americas and not knowing which one to call “Cap” is classic Ant-Man, and it is a neat way to show the film’s biggest reunion without spoiling anything.

It works because of where the two men left off. Steve handed his shield to Sam at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019). Sam took the Captain America name in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and led Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Steve has been away ever since, so to Scott, “Cap” now means two different people. Our Avengers Doomsday cast guide lists Evans second in the billing, right after Downey.

It is also a callback to the July trailer, which ended with Steve summoning Mjolnir with a simple “Hey, pal.” Our Avengers Doomsday trailer breakdown covers that moment.

What the Doomsday World Series preview confirms, and what it does not

  • Steve and Sam are both back. Both Captain Americas are in the film and, judging by Ant-Man’s mix-up, in the same room.
  • The Fantastic Four’s Earth matters. Doom’s first MCU appearance was on their world, in the First Steps mid-credits scene, so it is a fitting place to start.
  • It is not trailer 3. Marvel billed it as a preview and a special look. No full third trailer has been dated yet.
  • The X-Men: some outlets report a glimpse of the returning X-Men, but they disagree on which mutants appear, so we are not listing names. For what Marvel has already shown of them, see Avengers vs X-Men in Doomsday.

Why Marvel took Doomsday to the World Series

“There’s no bigger stage in baseball than the World Series,” said Martha Morrison, head of marketing at Disney Entertainment Studios, in MLB’s announcement. Game 1 was the Tampa Bay Rays against the Milwaukee Brewers, with Misiorowski starting for Milwaukee.

Before the spot aired, MLB teased it with the Avengers logo in a green-tinted sky above the stadium and the caption “Something’s coming”. That is a nice touch for anyone who watched the July trailer, because Doom’s very first line in it is “Something’s coming.”

Our take

Epic. That was our first reaction to the Doomsday World Series preview.

The best moment is Ant-Man’s Captain America mix-up. The MLB crossover is fun, and it has us even more hyped for the film.

We will be there on opening day, December 18.

Avengers: Doomsday is in cinemas on December 18, 2026, with Anthony and Joe Russo directing.
