• Doom needs a headline kill. Marketing has already shown Doom standing over a butchered Thanos variant. If Marvel wants Doom to instantly out-menace every villain before him, killing an original Avenger on screen is how you do it — and Thor is the biggest one still standing.

The Infinity War playbook, again

Remember how the Russos introduced Thanos? Minute one: Loki and Heimdall dead, Thor beaten half to death, Hulk running scared. One scene, and the entire audience understood the rules had changed. The Russos are back for Doomsday — and fans believe Thor is this movie’s rule-changer. The cruelest version of the theory adds a twist straight out of a tragedy: in his final moment, Thor glimpses the face beneath Doom’s mask — and hesitates, because it’s the face of an old friend. Here’s the deep-lore detail that turns the theory from sad to sinister. In the Secret Wars comics, Doom’s Battleworld isn’t policed by soldiers — it’s policed by the Thor Corps: an army of Thor variants from dead universes, serving Doom as his enforcers. Now line that up with the theory that the heroes lose Doomsday and Battleworld rises. Marvel wouldn’t just kill our Thor — it could replace him with a police force of knockoff Thors kneeling to Doom. The original dies; the copies salute. If you wanted one image to define how completely Doom has won, that’s it.

The counter-case: reasons Thor won’t die in Doomsday

Deep breath. Neither Marvel nor Chris Hemsworth has confirmed anything about Thor’s fate — all of this is inference — nobody insisting Thor will die in Doomsday has read a script. And the “too present in the trailer” logic cuts both ways: marketing hides deaths, it doesn’t advertise them.
