Spider-Man Brand New Day Box Office: Every Record Broken

The Brand New Day box office run has stopped being a good opening and become a historical event. Sixteen days in, Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the biggest opening weekend ever recorded, more than $1.7 billion worldwide, and a domestic pace no film has ever matched.

Here is where the numbers actually stand, which records have already fallen, and the one market nobody predicted.

Brand New Day box office: the running total

Figures below are as of August 13, 2026, before the third weekend closed. This film is moving fast enough that anything quoted is a snapshot.

  • Worldwide: roughly $1.72 billion
  • Domestic: $704.5 million
  • International: roughly $1.01 billion
  • Opening weekend: $360 million domestic, $927 million globally

The film opened on July 31, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

The records it already owns

This is the part worth slowing down for, because several of these are not “best in years” records. They are best ever.

  • Biggest opening weekend in history at $360 million domestic, taking the record from Avengers: Endgame and its $357 million.
  • Second biggest global opening ever at $927 million.
  • Fastest to $400 million domestic, in four days.
  • Second fastest to $1 billion worldwide, in six days.
  • Second fastest to $1 billion internationally, in twelve days, behind only Endgame.
  • Highest domestic total ever recorded at the ten day mark, at $655 million.

It has already passed the first two Avengers films on the all-time worldwide chart.

The second weekend told the real story

Opening weekends can be bought with marketing. Second weekends are where word of mouth shows up, and this is where the Brand New Day box office stopped looking like a stunt.

The film took $145 million domestically in weekend two, and $381 million globally across the same frame. That is a drop of roughly 60 percent from the biggest opening ever recorded, which sounds steep until you notice what it fell to: $145 million would be a strong opening weekend for almost any other film.

A record opening usually means a front-loaded film that collapses. This one did not.

The India number is the one nobody saw coming

China leads the international markets at about $186 million, which is roughly what a Spider-Man film is expected to do there. The surprise sits further down the list.

India has delivered $52.8 million, making Brand New Day the highest grossing Hollywood release in the country’s history. Not the highest of the year. The highest ever.

The rest of the top markets: the UK and Ireland at $87.4 million, Mexico at $65.8 million, India at $52.8 million, France at $49.2 million, South Korea at $43.2 million, Australia at $39.1 million, Germany at $37.6 million and Italy at $31.1 million.

What the Brand New Day box office is chasing next

Three targets sit directly ahead on the all-time worldwide chart:

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home at $1.92 billion
  • Avengers: Infinity War at $2.05 billion
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $2.07 billion

The third weekend was tracking at $57 million to $72 million domestically and around $145 million globally, which puts the film north of $1.9 billion by the end of business Sunday. Passing its own predecessor is close to a formality.

The domestic record is the more interesting chase. The Force Awakens holds it at $936 million, and Brand New Day reached $704.5 million in thirteen days. Analysts have started using the phrase “first billion dollar domestic release”, which is a sentence nobody has been able to write about any film before, inflation unadjusted.

Treat the $2 billion and $1 billion domestic talk as projection rather than fact. The recorded numbers are extraordinary enough without them.

Why this matters beyond one film

The superhero fatigue argument has been the default framing for three years, and it was not baseless. Marvel has released films that underperformed and shows that went unwatched.

This is not that. A Spider-Man film with a new director and a partly recast bench has outopened every film ever made. Whatever audiences had grown tired of, it was not the character and it was not the genre.

It also quietly did structural work. Sadie Sink debuted here as Jean Grey, two weeks before Marvel confirmed her as part of the full X-Men cast at D23. A mutant was introduced inside the highest grossing film of the year, to the largest audience Marvel has ever had in one room. That is a considerably better launchpad than a post-credits sting.

With Avengers: Doomsday arriving December 18 and its own pre-sales already running hot, Marvel has gone from defending its position to setting the ceiling, inside a single summer.

Our earlier breakdown of what this film means for the MCU and Sony called the setup, and the full D23 2026 roundup covers everything Marvel showed this weekend.

Does the Brand New Day box office change your read on superhero fatigue, or is one Spider-Man film not enough to settle it? Comments are open.
