Reacher season 5 is filming in Toronto now, adapting Lee Child’s 2015 novel Make Me, but Prime Video has not announced a release date as of October 3, 2026. Here is everything confirmed so far, plus our estimate for when it lands.
Prime Video renewed the show for a fifth season on May 11, 2026, three months before season 4 premiered. Season 4 streamed from August 12 to September 16, and 12 days after its finale, Amazon ordered a sixth season as well. The spinoff Neagley arrived on the same day as that finale, and it has already been renewed too.
Reacher season 5 release date: what is confirmed
Nothing yet. As of October 3, 2026, Prime Video has not announced a date, and the season is still filming. The best guide is the show’s track record of gaps between premieres.
| Season | Book | Premiere | Wait since previous premiere |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | Killing Floor | February 4, 2022 | First season |
| Season 2 | Bad Luck and Trouble | December 15, 2023 | About 22 months |
| Season 3 | Persuader | February 20, 2025 | About 14 months |
| Season 4 | Gone Tomorrow | August 12, 2026 | About 18 months |
| Season 5 | Make Me | Not announced | See our estimate |
Our estimate: autumn 2027, with early 2028 as the fallback. This is our projection, not an announcement. The quickest turnaround so far, about 14 months, would put Reacher season 5 around October 2027.
The production calendar points the same way. Season 4 finished filming in November 2025 and premiered about nine months later. Season 5 is due to wrap in December 2026, and the same gap would mean roughly September 2027.
If the wait matches the show’s average of about 18 months instead, the premiere slips to around February 2028. Men’s Journal has also pointed to autumn 2027.
What Make Me is about
Make Me is the 20th Jack Reacher novel, first published in September 2015. Prime Video confirmed it as the source for Reacher season 5 at its San Diego Comic-Con panel in late July 2026.
The setup is pure Reacher. He gets off a train at a tiny railway stop in the Midwest called Mother’s Rest, mainly because he wants to know how the town got its name. Nobody will tell him, and the locals are cold and watchful.
There he meets Michelle Chang, a private investigator searching for a missing colleague named Keever. The townspeople’s behaviour makes Reacher suspicious, so he stays to help her.
Prime Video’s official logline sticks to that opening: after his train stops in Mother’s Rest, Reacher teams up with a private investigator to find a missing person and uncovers a deadly criminal conspiracy. Collider calls the novel one of Child’s darkest Reacher stories.
Reacher season 5 cast
Alan Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher, and four new cast members were announced on July 29, 2026:
- Jay Baruchel as Chief Buck Bauer. Baruchel voiced Hiccup in the How to Train Your Dragon films.
- Amanda Ip as Michelle Chang, the private investigator Reacher teams up with.
- Kevin Durand as Nokes.
- Ciara Bravo as Eunice.
Baruchel has unfinished business with the show. He was originally cast as Jacob Merrick in season 4 but left the production, and Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette took over the part. Season 5 brings him back in a new role.
Eunice is the wild card. According to Collider, she is a character who does not appear in Child’s book, and Ritchson told the site that the role is one of his favourite pairings the show has had.
He is confident about the writing, too. Collider reported in July that the scripts were all finished before filming, and in September Ritchson told the site it is “a super tight season” that recalls the show’s more classic runs.
When and where Reacher season 5 is filming
Filming began in Toronto on July 20, 2026, and the production is scheduled to run until December. Hollywood North Buzz, which lists the season under the working title Honcho, gives December 5, 2026 as the end date. That is a shoot of about four and a half months, similar to season 4, which filmed from June to November 2025.
Season 6 is already renewed
Prime Video renewed Reacher for a sixth season on September 28, 2026, 12 days after the season 4 finale and less than five months after it ordered season 5. That puts two more seasons in the pipeline while Reacher season 5 is still shooting.
The numbers explain the hurry. Season 4 reached 66 million viewers worldwide in its first 28 days, according to Amazon. ScreenRant reports that it now ranks behind only three Prime Video original seasons: The Rings of Power season 1, Fallout season 1 and Reacher’s own second season. The site adds that, as of late September, the series had passed 200 million viewers since its 2022 debut.
As of October 3, 2026, Prime Video has not said which book season 6 will adapt. ScreenRant expects that to be revealed closer to production.
Where season 4 left Reacher
Spoilers for the season 4 finale follow.
Season 4 adapted Gone Tomorrow over eight episodes. In the finale, Reacher survives a brutal last fight with the Hoths despite serious wounds: Lila dies, and Amisha is arrested.
He then hands the USB drive at the centre of the conspiracy to Plum, a journalist, and leaves Philadelphia. As ScreenRant points out, the finale has no explicit setup for the next season, just like every finale before it. The next stop is Mother’s Rest.
Neagley
Maria Sten’s spinoff released all eight episodes on Prime Video on September 16, 2026, the same day as the season 4 finale. Sten plays Frances Neagley, Reacher’s former military protégé, who now works as a private investigator in Chicago.
When Neagley learns that a beloved friend from her past has died in a suspicious accident, she sets out to find the truth, and the case puts her on a dangerous path. Sten told Collider that “Reacher is a silverback gorilla, and Neagley is a mountain lion”, and that the action reflects the difference.
Greyston Holt plays Detective Hudson Riley, alongside Adeline Rudolph as Renee Birdwhistle, Jasper Jones as Keno, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole. Ritchson guest stars as Reacher. Reacher’s Nick Santora co-created the series with Nicholas Wootton, and the two are co-showrunners.
Neagley holds a 94 percent critics’ score from 31 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 82 percent audience score, as of October 3, 2026. Amazon says it drew 40 million viewers worldwide in its first 13 days, the fourth-biggest debut for a Prime Video original series.
That earned a quick renewal: Prime Video confirmed Neagley season 2 on October 1, 2026, just over two weeks after the premiere.
Our take
Make Me looks like the right book at the right time. Season 4 holds a 94 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes but only 64 percent from audiences as of October 3, 2026, and Ritchson himself told Collider the show has “gotten a little tame, in my opinion”. A drifter, a town that will not talk and a missing person: that is the kind of stripped-back mystery that made season 1 work, and Ritchson’s talk of a tight, classic season suggests the writers know it.
The new faces help too. Eunice gives book readers something they cannot predict, and Baruchel finally gets his Reacher role. The hard part is the wait: with filming running into December, autumn 2027 looks like the realistic best case for Reacher season 5. Until then, all four seasons and Neagley are streaming on Prime Video.
