Marvel just did something it has never done before: it turned a re-release into an event with a plot. Avengers: Endgame Encore hits theaters on September 25, and it is not a simple victory lap for the biggest movie of all time. Announced at the SDCC 2026 Hall H panel, Encore comes with a custom introduction, reportedly as much as 7 minutes of additional footage, and an exclusive ending sequence that leads directly into Avengers: Doomsday.
What exactly is Endgame Encore?
Think of it as Endgame with a frame around it. The 2019 film plays as you remember it, bookended by new material: a custom intro (reportedly with a special version for IMAX and premium formats), fresh footage woven in, and a brand-new end tag built to hand the story off to Doomsday. Kevin Feige confirmed at Hall H that the exclusive Doomsday material shown to the room lives inside this release – which means the re-release is not nostalgia. It is the next trailer, sold as a movie ticket.
Why Marvel is doing this
Three reasons, from most obvious to most clever. First, money: Endgame made nearly 2.8 billion dollars, and a September re-release prints revenue in a quiet month. Second, the calendar: September 25 lands twelve weeks before Doomsday opens on December 18, which is exactly when a marketing campaign wants its loudest beat. Third, and smartest: Marvel is protecting its footage. Nothing screened at Hall H has leaked online in watchable form, and now the only legal way to see the next Doomsday tease is a theater seat. After years of trailers being dissected frame by frame within minutes, Marvel found a way to make scarcity the marketing.
What the new footage probably is
Here is where it connects to what we know. The Hall H footage – which we described in full in our panel recap – centered on Doom’s history with the Fantastic Four, his clash with Thor, and an army of Sentinels under his control. The Encore ending reportedly extends Endgame’s final moments to plant the seeds of the multiverse collapse. Watch the original ending again with that in mind: Steve Rogers’ quiet retirement is exactly the thread the Doomsday trailer picked up. The movie it bridges into:
Should you actually go?
If you care about walking into Doomsday with every clue: yes, and pick the premium screen, since the custom intro is reportedly format-specific. If you just want the movie: you own it already, and the new material will be described in detail online (including here) the weekend it opens. Either way, expect the Encore ending to be the most screenshotted 90 seconds of September.
One more thing worth planning around: tickets. Endgame’s original release broke presale records, and a limited-window event with exclusive footage is built for a fast sellout weekend. When presales open, do not sleep on it.
Will you be in a seat on September 25, or is a re-release with homework attached a bridge too far? Comments are open.
