Marvel showed Hall H exclusive Avengers: Doomsday footage on Saturday night, then locked it away: no upload, no leak worth watching, and Marvel says it will not be released online. Which leaves 6,500 eyewitnesses and the rest of us. So here is the next best thing to seeing it: every reported beat of the Doomsday footage, described and decoded.
Update, September 26, 2026: Marvel did release this footage in the end. A trailer that largely mirrors the Hall H cut went online on August 14, after its D23 debut.
Beat one: Doom, the man
The footage opens on history, not spectacle. Sue Storm reflects that Victor “used to be kind” before he lost everything. Reed confronts him directly: “Did you do this?” Two lines, two enormous implications – Doom has real, warm history with the Fantastic Four, and something catastrophic has happened that Reed thinks Doom caused. That tracks precisely with the humanized false-savior arc our Franklin Richards deep-dive predicted: you do not write a kind-then-broken Doom unless the audience is supposed to almost agree with him.
Beat two: the Stormbreaker catch
Then the power demonstration. Doom catches Stormbreaker out of the air and answers Thor’s threat with four words: “Hell answers to me.” In the trailer he swatted the axe aside; in this footage he catches it clean. We spent a whole post on how Doom neutralizes Stormbreaker, and the escalation from swat to catch is the point: the weapon that killed Thanos is now a prop in Doom’s hand. Combined with a personal blood feud brewing between these two, our Thor death-watch post just got measurably more nervous.
Beat three: the Sentinel army
The closer: Doom commanding Sentinels – dormant machines he switches on, in a design lifted straight from the comics – as a massive battle erupts featuring Magneto, Cyclops, Gambit, Steve Rogers, Shang-Chi, Thor, Reed, and Shuri. Two things about that. First, it ties Doom directly to the X-Men’s oldest enemy: the mutant-hunting machines answer to him. Second, an army of reprogrammable giants is exactly how one man fights three universes of heroes without throwing a punch – the overwhelming-force framing that our surrender-theory post needs to stay alive.
Why you cannot watch it (and when you can)
Standard Hall H rules: cameras down during footage, and the press recordings cut the screened material. Marvel says this footage will not be released online. The next look comes with Avengers: Endgame Encore on September 25, which promises an exclusive Doomsday sneak peek in every screening. Scarcity is the campaign now.
