The Avengers Doomsday release date is December 18, 2026, and after two years of casting chaos, schedule shuffles and one very loud Hall H panel, Marvel’s biggest swing since Endgame is finally close enough to see properly. Here is everything that is genuinely confirmed, separated from everything that is not.
Avengers Doomsday release date and runtime
The film opens in theatres on December 18, 2026. That is a Friday, and the Avengers Doomsday release date puts the film directly into the Christmas corridor rather than the summer slot Marvel usually claims.
The official runtime has now been confirmed at 165 minutes, which is two hours and forty-five minutes. For context, that is longer than Infinity War and shorter than Endgame. It is also a number that tells you something: a film juggling this many characters was never going to come in under two and a half hours, and Marvel has stopped pretending otherwise.
The pre-sales number is the real story
This is the detail worth paying attention to. Doomsday has already taken roughly 19 million dollars in domestic pre-sales, and it did that from fewer than 1,000 venues.
That is an extraordinary figure this far out, from a fraction of the eventual screen count. Whatever you think of Marvel’s recent run, and there is plenty to think, the audience for this specific film has not gone anywhere. The narrative that superhero fatigue had killed the event movie does not survive contact with that number.
Doctor Doom, and the face problem
Robert Downey Jr. plays Victor Von Doom. Joe and Anthony Russo direct, returning for the first time since Endgame.
The casting remains the boldest thing Marvel has done in a decade, and it is not without risk. Bringing back the actor who defined the franchise as a different character invites exactly one question, which is why Doom has Tony Stark’s face. Marvel has been conspicuously silent on it, which is either confidence or a problem, and we have run through every theory at length.
What the trailer showed
The first official trailer arrived on July 20, 2026, following the footage Marvel screened at San Diego Comic-Con. If you missed the Hall H reaction, we described that footage in detail at the time.
Marvel screened Doomsday footage again at D23 on August 14, and it was the same cut that debuted at Comic-Con rather than new material. Four months out, the studio is holding what it has.
What is still not confirmed
Be careful here, because the gap between reported and confirmed is enormous on this film.
The full cast list has never been officially published in one place. Plot details are essentially nonexistent beyond Doom arriving on the main Earth with the multiverse at stake. Spider-Man’s involvement remains unconfirmed despite constant reporting. And the connection to Secret Wars, which follows, has not been spelled out by anyone at Marvel on the record.
